Christine Rhodes

Board Member

Christine Rhodes’ best and most vivid memories revolve around the great opportunity of growing up in the little neighborhood then known as Newell’s Camp in Naco, Arizona. For Christine this living arrangement in the $40 per month rental was paradise. She planted zinnias, collected tadpoles, and enjoyed a close friendship with the land lady, Jennie Newell.

Christine Rhodes graduated from Naco School in an 8th grade class of 18 students. She graduated from Bisbee High School and Cochise College before attending Northern Arizona University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education and a Master of Arts Degree in History. Christine found a teaching position at Elfrida’s Valley Union High School and later at Cochise College. While working a 44-year career as Cochise County Recorder, she tested the field of journalism by spending twelve years writing columns for The Bisbee Observer and The Western Forum

Christine is known for community activism and service on boards, foundations, associations, and committees as well as being a regular member of organizations primarily history-related. Currently, she serves on the Bisbee Council on the Arts & Humanities Board of Directors that is the governing authority for the Smithsonian-affiliated Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum, Bisbee Seniors Association Board of Directors, Kiwanis Club of Bisbee Board of Directors, Cochise Education Foundation, the Friends of the Warren Ballpark, and the Muheim Heritage House Museum Committee.
