Maddie is a Sophomore at Cochise College, seeking her degree in English with a minor in Anthropology. A resident of Sierra Vista, Maddie hopes to gain valuable hands-on field experience in archaeology through the Camp Naco internship,  which Maddie says, “is a specific interest of mine.” Among other activities, Maddie has been helping us with historical research including reviewing and digitizing Camp Naco newspaper clippings, and discovering historical context for some of the pieces in our collection.  Maddie says, “One memorable moment so far has been helping identify collar insignias found near Camp Naco. This was an exciting find, which proved difficult at first to identify because the insignias weren’t what we originally thought they were. This experience taught me about the Citizens Military Training Camps (CMTC), which I had never heard about before, and felt like solving a puzzle.”  Maddie will be shadowing WestLand Engineering & Environmental Services in their monitoring for archaeological site finds contract with the City of Bisbee during site development at Camp Naco, among other activities that we hope to be both fun and educational for her!
